About Lorica Spill Response and Incident Management Training

Introducing Jan Ozimkowski

My role as Director and Lead Consultant of Lorica Training Limited is based on the foundation provided by thirty years’ service as a uniformed member of the London Fire Brigade. During this time, I attended many different fire and emergency incidents, often in the capacity of Incident Commander. Before joining the Fire Service, I attended London University from 1974 – 77 where I achieved a B.SC (Hons) in Applied Biology.

Early on in my Fire Service career, I specialised in the area of hazardous materials incident response because of my scientific background. As well as serving at Central London’s busiest fire stations, I spent four years seconded as an instructor to the Fire Service College at Moreton in Marsh, specialising in hazardous materials incidents and environmental protection, incident management and operational command. I taught fire service officers hailing from all four corners of the United Kingdom as well as many from overseas fire and rescue services.

Back In Brigade, returning as a Senior Officer, I continued to attend operational incidents as required and provided the on-the-scene support, practical advice and guidance that was needed to safely resolve these complex events. During my service, I also gained the professional status of Member of the Institution of Fire Engineers (MIFireE), a qualification gained by academic examination and practical experience. I also gained a Master’s Degree in Business Administration (with Distinction) from Oxford Brookes University.

After retiring from the Fire Service, I joined a company called Sapira Training as Lead Consultant Trainer, helping to develop and deliver their full range of spill control, chemical hazard awareness and incident command training courses to its many customers, these being principally in the petrochemical, pharmaceutical and production industries. In late 2020, Sapira Training closed and as a result I decided to begin working in my own capacity and duly began trading as Lorica Training Ltd.

Since this time, I have worked with many clients including both public and commercial organisations to ensure that their employees are best placed to answer the demands of an increasingly ever-demanding safety environment.
